The rice tasted like biryani rice, not normal rice, but it was tasty. The chicken and lamb combo was good, and the salad was fresh. They made it to order, but it was already precooked in a warmer. I got a combo plate/dinner for 15.00 and it was more than enough to eat 3 times.
This place is simple, delicious, and well priced. I typically come here after the work day to pick something or, almost always the lamb platter. Lamb is tender and well seasoned, rice is delicious. Salad and dressing are great too. Their fries are also well seasoned and have a light crunch with a light fluffy interior. Would recommend!
My friends and I went to try Gyro Hut near our school. I got the lamb gyro platter over rice, which also includes lettuce, tomato, onions, cucumber, corn, black olives, jalapeño, giardiniera, chickpeas, sliced pickles, and signature white and hot sauce. The lamb gyro was really juicy and tender, it did. It have a gamey taste either. I really loved the rice as well. The other toppings go well with the platter as well. They add some freshness and texture to the platter.
It almost feels wrong to call this place a fast food establishment. It technically fulfills the quad criteria of convenience, affordability, big portions, and late hours, but the food here deserves a title with a more positive connotation. At any Halal restaurant, I typically order the combo platter (half chicken, half lamb) by default; the chicken usually isn't as tasty as the lamb but I get it anyway for the protein. To my surprise, the chicken here blew me away and gave the lamb a run for its money. I placed my order via DoorDash on a Tuesday afternoon since I had virtual interviews all day, figuring I'd have to bite the bullet on an exorbitant amount of delivery fees. Turns out that even though I lived 20 minutes away and added 4 extra toppings (pickles, corn, olives, chickpeas), the pre-tip total only came out to $13.91 due to a promo code and DashPass! Pro tip: most Chase credit cards come with a free DashPass membership of at least one year, no commitment required. Make sure to check your card's benefits. I would love to pay Gyro Hut a visit in person next time.
This is a great, fast casual spot near the med center. They're definitely a great spot for a quick NY style chicken rice plate but very clean and orderly. Service is always quick and efficient but not the place to expect like a whole sit down, waiter, tableside service type of spot. I've had the gyro platter and gyro fries, both of which are great. For the price, the platter is 2 meals for me so definitely worth the cost. The food itself also tastes great, though I do wish the red sauce were a bit spicier. The gyro fries are a "side" but I found it to be a good single portion of food. I always get the lamb and its nice, juicy chunks of gyro. Best part for me is that its open late night and very close by. I always love finding late night spots, esp ones that have fries cause that's my go to late night food. Location, cost, taste, and hours all set this to be a top spot for me.
Came in on a Monday night at 10pm Food 5/5: ordered a combo plate, pretty good taste, loved the combination of white and red sauce on it Service 4/5: quick, polite, got the job done Ambiance 1/5: in a slightly sketchy area, would not stay to eat late at night but is probably ok during lunch. Ambiance inside is purely functional, no frills, hole in the wall-esque Value 4/5: 16$ for a large to go container of decent food. A couple years ago would have given 5/5 at 7-8$ for the same thing but prices have risen significantly, still a decent value Parking: shared parking lot with other shops
The chicken and rice is pretty good. Tastes kind of oily. Eating here isn't great because they are very loud with their cutting of the meat. It's a large metal cutter on a metal surface. So it was hard to hear and talk to the people I was with.i appreciate that their jot sauce isn't concentrated (like Halaal Guy's). So that's cool.
Before you even start to read this review, I want you to look at this picture and admire the beauty behind every little crevice that Gyro hut has to offer us. The creaminess of the white sauce, and the calmness of the hot sauce that Halal guys does not offer, as well as the additional chickpeas, cucumbers, lettuce, tomatoes, and white onions, and as well as corn really up to the game for Gyro Hut. last week I flew all the way to New York to get halal guys, but I didn't know this was just right down the street. My life has been complete. I'm foaming at the mouth writing this. Last but not least, an incredible price. Thank you, Gyro hut.
I can appreciate Gyro Hut for what it is: a Halal friendly establishment, a fast casual meal(s) with good portions, a bonafide late night option with affordable prices in the heart of the Med Center. What it is not though, is a replacement for the New York style Halal street food. Their motto of being "Straight Outta New York" is as hilarious as it is inaccurate. It wouldn't surprise me if the owners / management have spent time in New York, but the food and atmosphere are a bit of a departure from what should be the quintessential Halal street experience. The interior is bright and clean, which even includes their bathroom. I love that their AC is on blast and is almost freezing after a few minutes spent inside. The menu is placed right above their counter where they make all the food in front of folks. Pro Tip: Check-in on Yelp for a free can of soda. Their platters are around $11-13, which include a solid pile of protein with rice and salad. They include other things on the platter that you wouldn't see in NYC, such as chickpeas, cucumber salad, and corn. I think the gyro fries are a sleeper and the party trays might come in handy for the next potluck party. Their freshly made juices are somewhat of a head scratcher, but seem fresh even if they are served room temperature. One thing they did seem to incorporate from the current street meat NY scene is charging extra for sauce. I don't have a problem with this per se, especially if they were in sauce packet form. However, these ones are in tiny containers that are not exactly easy to scrape or pour sauce out of. I wouldn't be surprised if they were skimpy on the initial sauce dump in hopes that folks would buy more. While I think it's not a dead-on experience with what is "straight outta New York," I still think it's a worthy late meal option and one that is super ideal for the neighborhood.
Visited Gyro Hut for the first time and got the Combo Platter with chicken and lamb and the lamb gyro fries. The flavors of both dishes absolutely did not disappoint! The combo platter had the perfect balance of rice, meat and vegetables. Normally I am hesitant on ordering chicken from restaurants as they tend to be dry, but the chicken here was amazing! The lamb gyro fries were also great and everything was fresh to order! I thought the red sauce would be spicy but personally I don't think it was spicy at all. However both the red and white sauce provided a good balance of flavors with the rest of the dish. Overall between the time walking in and placing the order to receiving it took about 10 minutes. The service was great and quick. The restaurant has a small eating area that has a couple of tables if you are looking to eat inside. Overall, 5/5 experience!
